Turning Waste Into Resources
At Oakvale, waste is viewed as a resource.
Animal manure, hay, mulch and leaf litter generated throughout the park are repurposed through composting and land regeneration programs. These materials improve soil quality, support revegetation projects and significantly reduce landfill contributions.
Even surplus food from café operations is redirected into animal enrichment and feeding programs where appropriate, helping minimise food waste while supporting animal welfare.
Our innovative circular waste approach now diverts 98% of organic waste from landfill.
Growing a More Sustainable Future
Creating sustainable food sources for our animals is a critical part of our conservation strategy.
Across six dedicated plantation zones, Oakvale grows koala browse species and bamboo for red pandas, reducing reliance on external feed collection while strengthening habitat values across the property.
In 2026 alone, more than 500 Swamp Mahogany trees were planted to support long-term koala browse sustainability and biodiversity outcomes.
Our 220-acre Brandy Hill property further supports feed security through the production of lucerne and grain, creating greater self-sufficiency and reducing transport impacts.
Water Conservation in Action
Water is one of our most valuable natural resources.
Oakvale operates an extensive network of rainwater tanks and a greywater irrigation system that helps reduce reliance on mains and bore water supplies.
Combined with water-efficient infrastructure and ongoing monitoring, these initiatives support our goal of reducing water consumption while maintaining exceptional standards of animal care and landscape management.
Taking Climate Action
In 2026, Oakvale completed the CarbonHalo Business Climate Action Program and undertook a comprehensive emissions assessment to establish our greenhouse gas baseline.
This important milestone allows us to identify opportunities to reduce emissions and track measurable progress over time.
