Laughing Kookaburra

Other Names: Great Brown Kingfisher, Laughing Jackass

Length: 400-450mm

Voice: Chuckling; loud laughing made by group to claim territory

Food: Mainly insects and invertebrates but sometimes snakes, lizards and rodents.

Where Found: Woodlands and open forests.

Habits: Alone or in pairs, perching ready to pounce, they watch for prey, which they batter before swallowing.

Nesting: Tree hollow or hole in termite mound. Eggs incubated by female helped by unmated young birds.
