Red-tailed Black Cockatoo


Other Names: Red-tailed Cockatoo, Banksian Cockatoo

Length: 500-610mm

Voice: Loud harsh grating single note -kree.

Food: Seed eaters. Eat a variety of seeds of trees, shrubs, grasses and even mangroves.

Where Found: See map. Four different races which occupy different regions.

Habits: In forests found in pairs, family groups and small parties, They feed high and only come down to drink. In open woodland large flocks forage together and flocks of 200 have been seen in W.A.

Nesting: Tree hollows generally high in trees and lined with wood chips. One egg incubated by female for 28days. Male feeds her while she incubates then both feed hatchling.
