Recently, our team rolled up their sleeves for a hands-on working bee, re-planting one of our plantation zones as part of our ongoing commitment to conservation, sustainability and habitat enhancement across the park.
This latest planting effort is one of many steps we’re taking to ensure Oakvale continues to thrive — not just today, but for generations of wildlife and visitors to come.
Six Plantation Zones, One Shared Purpose
Oakvale is home to six dedicated plantation zones, each playing an important role in supporting biodiversity, animal welfare and long-term environmental health. These zones provide:
- A reliable food source for our resident koalas, supporting their wellbeing and our successful koala breeding program
- Browsing enrichment for a range of animal habitats, including bird aviaries, the animal nursery, nocturnal enclosures, and Tasmanian Devil habitats
- Shelter and habitat for wild native species, such as brush-tailed possums, birds, and a variety of invertebrates
Plantation Zone 2 has now been refreshed with newly planted Swamp Mahogany (Eucalyptus robusta) trees. Thanks to the incredible efforts of our passionate staff and volunteers, more than 500 trees were planted during the recent working bee.

A Team Effort Rooted in Care
The re-planting of Zone 2 was led by our dedicated team, who worked together to carefully plant and protect young trees that will grow alongside Oakvale for years to come. While these trees may be small now, their long-term impact will be significant — contributing to cooler habitats, richer ecosystems and more natural spaces throughout the park.
This kind of hands-on work reflects what Oakvale stands for: practical conservation actions backed by genuine care.
Looking Ahead: Future Tree Planting at Oakvale
Tree planting at Oakvale doesn’t stop here. Over the coming months and years, we’ll continue to:
- Re-plant additional plantation zones
- Introduce more native and animal-appropriate tree species
- Expand shaded areas across the park
- Strengthen natural habitats for both resident animals and visiting wildlife
Each new tree planted is an investment in the future — supporting animal wellbeing, environmental resilience and sustainable park management.
Conservation at the Heart of Oakvale
Conservation is at the heart of everything we do at Oakvale Wildlife Park — both within our park boundaries and beyond. Through Oakvale’s Save Our Wildlifeinitiative, we actively support conservation projects and programs that protect wildlife and natural habitats across Australia and New Zealand.
The Save Our Wildlife initiative helps fund and support vital conservation efforts, habitat restoration projects, and wildlife protection programs, ensuring our impact reaches far beyond Oakvale itself. Initiatives like our ongoing tree planting programs directly align with this mission, creating healthier environments while contributing to broader conservation outcomes.
By planting trees today, we’re not only improving habitats for our animals but also reducing our environmental footprint and inspiring the next generation to care for the natural world.
We’re incredibly proud of our team’s efforts and excited to watch these young trees grow into thriving green spaces that support wildlife, conservation, and our shared future.
Thank you for supporting Oakvale Wildlife Park and our Save Our Wildlifeinitiative as we continue to grow, nurture, and protect the environment we share.
