Oakvale Wildlife Park has an amazing and unique opportunity to work in a nature-based tourism business with amazing creatures at our doorstep.

We are looking for a full-time Reptiles & Birds Lead Keeper who has a passion for reptiles and birds as well as interacting with customers and making their day, to join our award-winning team.

The Position:

The aim of this position is to bring further growth and development to the department and to assist the Curator and Management throughout the process.


The Successful Candidate:

The successful candidate must have a high quality of customer service and be an energetic and passionate professional with proven experience with the right skills, and experience for the job. Most importantly, have the right attitude and self-motivation that will result in a positive experience every time for our customers.


Essential Criteria:

* Minimum of 3 years of paid zoo or wildlife husbandry experience with a range of Reptile and Bird species.

* A minimum of Certificate III in Captive Animals or equivalent university studies and working towards a Certificate IV in Captive Animals.

* Experience in the husbandry of the department's collection species.

* Experience with working with children of all ages and delivering on conservation and animal content in an exciting and engaging manner.

* Experience managing a small team.

* Interest and commitment to animal welfare and conservation

* Good knowledge and understanding of relevant government Acts and animal welfare legislation.

* Advanced knowledge in the handling and husbandry of a range of native and exotic species of Reptiles and Birds.

* Class C manual driver's license.

* Excellent communication skills as well as the ability to work well within a team.


Desirable:

* Working with Children & National Police Check.
