Description
The red panda is a small, cat-sized mammal with soft reddish-brown fur, a black belly and legs, and a long, bushy tail marked with pale rings. Its white face features distinctive reddish “tear” markings. Native to the high-altitude forests of the Himalayas, red pandas are excellent climbers, using their strong limbs and sharp claws to navigate trees, while their thick tail helps with balance and provides warmth in cooler climates.
Distribution
Red pandas are found in the temperate mountain forests of the eastern Himalayas and southwestern China, where they inhabit cool, high-altitude regions with dense bamboo understories.

Lifespan
8 to 10 years
Size
A body length of 50-65 cm plus a long, bushy tail (30-50 cm) for balance, weighing 3-6.2 kg.
Diet
Red Panda is largely vegetarian, eating chiefly young leaves and shoots of bamboo. It also takes fruit, roots, succulent grasses, acorns, lichens, birds' eggs and insects.
Habitat
They prefer bamboo thicken in proximity of water in tropical, Sub-tropical and temperate forests.
Breeding
Red pandas experience delayed implantation, meaning the fertilised egg can remain dormant before implanting in the uterus. As a result, the total gestation period can vary widely, ranging from approximately 90 to 160 days, with an average of around 135 days (4–5 months). Births typically occur in spring or summer, when food is most abundant, and females usually give birth to litters of 1–4 cubs.
