Description
Highland cattle or kyloe are an ancient Scottish breed of beef cattle with long horns and long wavy pelts which are coloured black, brindled, red, yellow or dun. Highland cattle have been successfully established in many temperate countries.
Their hair provides protection during the cold winters and their skill in browsing for food enables them to survive in steep mountain areas.
Distribution
Scottish Highland Cows originate from Scotland but today Highlands are found throughout North America, as well as in Europe, Australia, and South America.

The lifespan of the Highland Cow is 20 years.

Bulls : 600 kg – 800kg
Females : 400 kg – 650 kg
Diet
The Highland Cow eats grass, hay and fresh fruit and vegetables.
Habitat
Originally rough and rocky terrain.
Breeding
Mating occurs throughout the year. Gestation lasts approximately 277 - 290 days. A single calf is most common, although occasionally twins are born.
