Highland cattle or kyloe are an ancient Scottish breed of beef cattle with long horns and long wavy pelts which are coloured black, brindled, red or yellow. Their hair provides protection during the cold winters and their skill in browsing for food enables them to survive in steep mountain areas.
Originating from Scotland but today Highlands are found throughout North America, as well as in Europe, Australia, and South America.
Bulls : 600 – 800kgs.
Females : 400 – 650kgs.
Grass, hay and fresh fruit and vegetables.
Originally rough and rocky terrain.
Mating occurs throughout the year. Gestation lasts approximately 277 - 290 days. A single calf is most common, although occasionally twins are born.
